Fonts, installing new fonts

how to install true type and other fonts

Copy fonts to ~/.fonts

As of Ubuntu 14 you do not need to run the following command, but historically you may need to:
sudo fc-cache -f -v

This will rebuild the font cache and include your new fonts

As root create a new directory in /usr/share/fonts/truetype/mydirectory

Now copy your new font(s) to this directory
Then run fc-cache as directed above
