ALSA settings being lost / not saved after reboot
also applies to xfce4-mixer
I found xfce4-mixer and ALSA settings were not being saved after rebooting in Jaunty Jackalope.
My solution was to first change the permission on the file that stores the settings:
/var/lib/alsa/asound.state
This step is not vital but was handy to stop me having to sudo each time I ran alsactl or xfce4-mixer.
I set the mixer levels using: alsamixer
Then saved the settings used: alsactl store
